There are 3 main phases to learning to drive, these are:-

It is important to master all of these in order to drive safely. The syllabus incorporates all of these elements and it will depend upon how much experience you have as to where your driver training is required.
- Cockpit drill & main car controls
- Moving off, stopping and gear changes
- Clutch control
- Junctions & emerging at T-junctions
- Priorities when meeting other vehicles
- Crossroads
- Pedestrian crossings & signals
- Traffic lights & filter arrows
- Turn in the road - manoeuvre
- Corner reverse - manoeuvre
- Emergency stop
- Roundabouts - mini and larger ones
- Dual carriageways and general lane discipline
- Car parking - supermarket type and test centre
- Parallel parking - between 2 cars and behind 1 car (as on test)
- Town centre driving, one-way systems and Hazard awareness and reading the roads
- Independent driving
- Vehicle checks
